Bai Baboucarr Sanyang was born in Kangkuntu, Foni Kansala District, West Coast Region,

He attended Saint Edward’s Primary School and Saint Augustine’s High School.
He joined the Telecoms Training Centre in 1979 before working for the then Telecoms Department.
Bai was part of the pioneering team that spear-headed the merging of Telecoms Department
with Cable and Wireless into the Gambia Telecommunications Company (Gamtel) in 1984. He was singlehandedly running the Telex and Fax departments with the passing of both his seniors in 1989, training other technicians who later joined him.
Bai went to pursue the undergraduate degree in the United Kingdom in 1993 at Anglia Ruskin’s in Chelmsford, Essex.
After graduation in 1996, Bai was posted to the Gambia Radio and Television Services (GRTS) as the Senior Engineer, since it was then a directorate under Gamtel. As head of the Engineering Department in GRTS, Bai was active in the procurement, operations, and repair of equipment both at the Radio and Television, rising to the rank of Deputy Director General (Technical).
He was one of the two representatives of The Gambia in the Regional Radio Conference from 2004 – 2006 that led to the signing of the Geneva 2006 plan for digital terrestrial broadcasting (GE-06). Bai was part of the team that coordinate the television broadcasting of the AU summit in 2006, held in The Gambia.
Bai also coordinated the GRTS Satellite Project in 2009. After his retirement in 2020, he was tasked by the GRTS Board to help establish a subsidiary of GRTS, called Digital Gambia, Limited (DGL) responsible for digital TV signal distribution, becoming its first General Manager.
